It’s a “Family Affair”

     “I’ve told this story so many times over the years I decided it was time to write it down.  This article is from my own personal experiences in my Plant & Christmas Business.”

     When my twin daughters were young, we went everywhere together. They even helped me water my plant accounts. In one large building I had 27 accounts, and the accounts in this building alone paid all our bills and house payment each month.  I went to the property manager of the building one-day, and asked if it would be possible to water these accounts in the evening if all my clients agreed. The property manager said sure as long as everyone gave me a key.  So I went to each of my contact people and was amazing when they gave me keys to access the offices at night. I was thrilled! 

     My girls and I always began our evening at Wendy’s Restaurant.  They liked the chocolate shakes.  We would have dinner and begin the watering around 7 when all the offices were empty. We began at the top and worked our way down and out the door.  Jennifer always liked to trim the leaves, Victoria always did the misting, and I watered.  In less that 3 hours we could take care of all the plants really well, knowing they would look perfect until we came again.

     We watered every 9 days.  People are on a 7 day cycle but plants don’t really want to be watered that much, they like to dry out a day or two before being watered again.  With this schedule we watered most months only 3 times, so lets figure it out together. 3to 5 hours 3 times a month, say 15 hours max and the gross amount on these 30 accounts was right at $4600 per month, less Wendy’s for dinner.  That’s a few hundred per hour, not bad huh? The girls would also get their homework done, we could practice spelling and math, and their grades actually improved as well. All in all, pretty good for a single mom raising twin daughter by herself, huh?
