“Quarter Deck” Restaurant
While driving around town I saw “Quarter Deck OPENING SOON”. I whipped into the parking lot, wrote down the numbers on the all the white pick up trucks for the carpenters, plumbers, electricians, then rushed back to the office and called the guys to get the scoop. “How can I get in touch with the owner, what’s his name, when are you opening?” These guys get all their future jobs exactly the same way, and the truth is they’re usually pretty nice guys.
The next day I called the restaurant, “Hi Mr. Thomas, I have a plant company; we rent plants and containers for banks, hotels & restaurants. I can make your place look beautiful. We lease & guarantee all the plants so the minute anything needs replacing, we take care of it.” Literally two seconds later he says: “When can you come over?” Too easy!
We walk thru the restaurant, I showed him my portfolio (the same one you will receive) and gave a few suggestions on what I thought would look good. We talked about where the booths and tables would go, and his next question was “How much?” I took a deep breath, “Let me get back to you after I price everything out”. He said, “I want to open on Friday.” I replied, “I better hurry up then huh?”
I called a few nurseries, wrote up the contract (the same one you will receive) and as I faxed over the bid my heart started racing the same way it did 25 years ago when I got my first contract. The excitement never goes away!
I called and he said, “Let me think about it”. “Great, that’s all I ask, I’ll need to know in the next day though, if I’m going to install everything before the Grand Opening. If you decide to do business with me, I’ll stop everything and run just for you. I really hope we can do business together.” The next day he called me and said “I’ll sign if you lower the price,” I immediately said, “how about $250.00 a month and a $100.00 trade out in food each month, he said “Done” The truth is I would have settled for $250.00. (Fyi “trade-out” means I can have crab & lobster for free each month. Did I mention I love trade-outs)?
Their first check will cover all the cost of the plants, and by the 3rd month everything is completely paid for & your now 100% profit every single month, month after month, year after year, plus don’t forget the lobster each month!
